ONCOLOGY

ONCOLOGY SERVICES

With cancer being the #1 cause of death in companion animals over the age of 10, early detection and treatment may help to provide for a better prognosis and outcome, and ultimately a better quality of life for your pet.

While we are sad to see Dr. Andy Abbo leave us in October, we wish him all the best as he opens his own practice closer to his home in the Boston area. VESH is pleased to announce that while we search for a full-time oncologist who can expand this service, we will be able to continue to provide your pet with these services under the experienced hand of Dr. Claire Weigand, DACVIM, our Internal Medicine Specialist, who has treated oncology patients for nearly two decades.

An accurate diagnosis and understanding of the extent of your pet’s disease is essential in helping to decide which treatment options are most appropriate and will offer the best outcome for your pet and your family. There are many different types of cancer, and many treatment options–Dr. Weigand can help you understand your pet’s disease, help you make the best diagnostic decisions, and support you throughout the treatment process.

Dr. Weigand can provide many specialized diagnostic procedures and treatments including:

  • Fine-needle aspirate cytology
  • Biopsy
  • Medical oncology treatments including chemotherapy and immunotherapy
  • Palliative pain management
  • Ultrasound, and
  • Radiation therapy and advanced diagnostics by referral

Working closely with your regular veterinarian, Dr. Weigand can provide you with options and help determine the best treatment for your pet. If you believe your pet would benefit from a consult with Dr. Weigand, speak with your regular veterinarian about making a referral to her at VESH.
